City of Joburg to launch new 3-year Comprehensive Integrated Transport Plan
The City of Joburg, through the Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA) and the City’s transport department, has begun working on developing its new three-year Comprehensive Integrated Transport Plan (CITP) that will guide how Joburg’s transport system grows and connects over the next five years.
The municipality says the plan will bring together all aspects of transport across the city’s seven regions – from roads, buses, and trains to cycling paths and pedestrian routes.
The last CITP was developed between 2003 and 2008 with the new CITP update to align transport planning with the city’s latest developments.
The municipality says the latest CITP will form a key part of its policy and development framework, guide future transport investment and budgets, and align with its Spatial Development Framework.
“Public engagement will be an essential part of the process. Residents, communities, and key stakeholders will have opportunities to provide input at various stages of the project to ensure the final plan reflects the need and aspirations of all Joburgers”.
