Cape Winelands Airport expansion green lighted

Cape Winelands Airport has received Environmental Authorisation (EA) from the Western Cape Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning (DEADP) for its planned expansion, an anticipated investment of approximately R8 billion and one of the biggest infrastructure developments in the City of Cape Town.

The proposed project entails the expansion in a phased development approach which includes the realignment of the primary runway, comprehensive airside infrastructure, a new boutique building with modern facilities, and plans for hotels and a conference centre.

The approval follows an extensive environmental assessment and consultation process undertaken with the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA) over a two-year period including four rounds of public consultation and over 40 specialist studies.
