Cape Town calls for comment on draft LSDF for Kensington & Factreton

The City of Cape Town is calling for commentary on its proposed Local Spatial Development Framework (LSDF) for Kensington and Factreton along the Voortrekker Road Corridor, including Acacia Park and Wingfield, as well as parts of Thornton and the Maitland cemetery.

An LSDF determines the development vision for an area on a local level and once approved by Council, the municipality will use the LSDF for guidance when making decisions on development applications and land uses in the area.

The City says that Kensington and Factreton are facing a range of development issues including the growth of informal settlements and land invasions, congestion, and pressure on existing infrastructure in some areas. However, the area is well located with easy access from the N1 and via Voortrekker Road; it is close to transit routes and job hubs and, vacant/underutilised land, including the Wingfield military base, provides opportunities for urban regeneration.

The municipality is hosting an open day on Saturday, 4th October 2025 between 10:00am and 14:00pm at the Kensington Civic Centre.

The closing date for comments is the 22nd of October 2025.
