Joburg launches SA’s first integrated Spatial Data Platform

The City of Johannesburg has launched South Africa’s first Integrated Spatial Data Platform (ISDP) and Spatial Plan Management System (SPMS), consolidating spatial data from all City departments and municipal-owned entities into a single digital repository accessible through a web-based mapping platform.

The municipality says the platform replaces outdated, fragmented systems with real-time, seamless data sharing, allowing both GIS and non-GIS users to conduct advanced spatial analysis; generate interactive dynamic reports, and apply data-driven insights for planning and decision-making.

The project is a collaboration between the City’s Development Planning and Corporate Geo-Informatics departments and the Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA).
