Limpopo’s Groblersdal Mall undergoes revamp

Groblersdal Mall in Limpopo is undergoing redevelopment, led by co-owners Twin City and Patricio & Sons. The shopping centre opened in 2017.

The refurbishment, which began in February 2025, will see the 37 000m2 mall completed by November 2025 with a host of new features including a completely reimagined food court and an enhanced tenant mix and brand identity.

A collaborative design JV between Design Partnership and Leon Jacobs Architects, inspiration for the mall’s redevelopment was pulled from Groblersdal’s agricultural setting to articulate inviting, tactile spaces that promote a sense of belonging.

The use of greenery, natural textures and warm tones throughout the centre reflects a deep connection to the land while creating spaces where visitors feel encouraged to linger and connect.

Design Partnership also led the mall’s rebranding logo and brand direction with its refreshed identity ‘Rooted in Groblersdal, Growing Together’.

Alongside existing anchor Spar, Checkers will join the mall as a major grocery anchor with Woolworths expanding its footprint to include its full food and clothing offering.

The food court is being redesigned as a central hospitality zone with the inclusion of a play area, pause areas, ground-level water features and new standalone food retailers.

Other upgraded amenities include modernised public restrooms and integrated landscaping.
